"Cosmopolitan" provides an international example of the women's magazine genre and is marketed mainly to white, westernised South African women, while "True Love" is a local publication produced for, and predominantly consumed by, black South African women. This case study makes use of both text and audience analysis. The text analysis begins as a genre study, which attempts to 'denaturalize' the magazine form. A reception analysis, informed by focus group research, provides the audience analysis component of the study.
